3/13/08 Postdoc Recruitment

A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the UNC Gene Therapy Center (Director: R. Jude Samulski) to participate in research at the interface of chemistry, cell biology and virology. Applicants must have a Ph.D with a strong background in bioorganic / bioconjugate chemistry and bioanalytical techniques.  Candidates with additional experience in molecular biology techniques and protein biochemistry are particularly encouraged to apply.  For further information, contact Dr. Aravind Asokan (aravind@med.unc.edu) with a copy of current CV including the names and contact information of three references.

3/30/07  Postdoc Recruitment

The Gene Therapy Center Vector Core is recruiting for one Post Doctoral position.  This individual will join a multidisciplinary group of scientists studying the mechanics and biology of both Baculovirus and Adeno-associated virus (AAV).  The immediate goal of this research is to develop efficient methods for using Baculovirus as both seed and helper viruses that can coordinately assemble recombinant AAV vectors.  The long-term objectives of this research will be to create a commercially scalable AAV production platform to produce pre-clinical and clinical-grade vectors.  The ultimate mission of the Center is to facilitate the translation of gene therapy protocols from the research lab to Phase I clinical trials for the treatment of a wide range of diseases.  The development of a scalable, cost efficient production platform is crucial to these larger efforts.

This position requires an individual with a PhD degree and extensive experience in Molecular Biology and Viral Biology.  Candidates with experience in Baculovirus, AAV and column chromatography are particularly encouraged to apply. Only qualified candidates will be considered.  Successful candidates will be expected to interact with members of the Gene Therapy Program.  Interested applicants are asked to submit a Curriculum Vita, description of research interests and three references.  The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.  Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.  Applications accepted up to time of actual selection.
